The Lapindo mudflow that occurred in Balongnongo, Renokenongo, Porong, Sidoarjo still makes several problems. Since 30 October 2008, mud has been flowing at a rate of around 100,000 m3 per day and this figure is ESTIMATED to continue for the next 30 years. Therefore, research about Lapindo mud will have a positive impact not only from an environmental perspective but also from an economic perspective. In this study several preparatory treatments were carried out on Lapindo mud to determine its effect in compound concentration. Preparation was carried out by chemical treatment HCl and physical treatment with calcination at 550°C. After preparation, Lapindo Mud was analyzed for its elemental content with X-Ray Fluoresence (XRF) and its structure was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Generally, the main content of Lapindo Mud consists of SiO2, Fe2O3, and Al2O3 compounds. The XRF results showed that the effect of Lapindo mud preparation by washing HCl and calcination can reduce the concentration of SiO2, Fe2O3, and Al2O3 compounds. This was also supported by structural characterization data with XRD which showed a peak decrease in these compounds.
